UNIDO General Conference "Green Industries"

The General Conference, Thirteenth Session, of the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) will open in Vienna on 7 December.
The five-day event will bring together hundreds of participants including Heads of State and Government, Ministers and other high-level officials from around the world, as well as senior representatives of other United Nations organizations, prominent business leaders, representatives of civil society and experts from research and academic institutions.
This year, the event will carry an overarching thematic focus on "green industries" and the opportunities they offer for developing countries in the current economic circumstances.This will serve to highlight the role of industry in finding solutions to emerging and global challenges faced by these countries in achieving their developmental objectives within a framework of environmental sustainability.
The General Conference, UNIDO?s highest policymaking organ, consists of all 173 Member States. It will appoint the Director-General for a period of four years, approve the programme and budgets and establish the scale assessments for regular budget expenditures for the forthcoming biennium.
The General Conference will also feature two high-level forums, "Global Economic Slowdown: the Impact on Manufacturing" and "Global Economic Recovery: seizing opportunities for greening industries". It will also have roundtable discussions focusing on five regions: Africa, Asia and the Pacific, Europe and Newly Independent States, Latin America and the Caribbean, and the Arab world.
